I have been at the Surgery since 8:30pm last night, I started writing this at 4:58am.

As some of you know, I work for my parents, my younger brother and myself are Tech Support/Maintenance/Cleaners at our parents medical practice.

On Saturday, the server died, one of the hard drives was causing problems, we took it home, patched up the system, removed the faulty drive and placed the system at the surgery again.

On Monday, we found out that the system had gaps in the databases, most notably, most of the billing information and patient records made in the last month were gone. Thus we moved to correct this tonight, after discovering the problem during the day. (Maintenance on the databases are infeasible while they are in operation)

In any case, we began these operation at 6:30pm, and are still likely to be here at 9am tomorrow. The merge is taking longer than expected, fortunately the time estimates are looking better because the process has doubled in speed for the last half hour or so, this increase appears to be sustained and possibly slightly increasing. Which means we theoretically might be able to pull this off before the surgery opens.

In other news, I got a haircut last night. (Before I went to the surgery).

(Finished writing this at date "Tuesday, 5 July 2005 5:06:53 AM")

PS: The only good thing I can think about this is that I get $35 an hour, and I get to watch movies while this merge is happening, because really, we are only here to make sure it finishes, long processes, but need someone here to respond.

Bah, damn things, I really dislike having to do stuff in manly because most of the machines are meant to work as just dumb terminals, which means they have not been updated in ages, so they are slower than a brick in treacle.

What doesn't help is the Configuring Microsoft® .NET Framework's "progress bar" which moves at a fixed rate, and loops when it hits the end, not actually denoting any progress at all, I guess it is just there for the look. I mean they don't CALL it a progress bar.

I think the worst part of this is that even when I manage to get this done, in an hour or so Balgowlah should be up and running. It should be so pointless, but the problem is, what if there is another step to the Merge. Thus my current predicament.

It's finished time for lunch, home and sleep
