I really need to update more often.
Lets see, what have I been up to since the previous update?
Work.
Going away with friends to Lillipilli.
Downloading various superhero series and watching them
Messing around with friends
Court case with builders finally finished
Maintenance of my PC
I think I'll go through each of these things in that order:
WorkAs most of you know I work for my parents, cleaning the surgery, and maintaining the computer system. Typically my job entails of cleaning the surgery with my younger brother once a week. Unless things go wrong, and Australia Day seems to the the time of year when things always go wrong.
This year, the server died, and so we had to do a complete rebuild, overnight. The server was taken home at about midday, and was back in place before the surgery opened the next day, with almost no glitches. It resulted in little sleep for me, and less for Stee, who neglected to wake me for my shifts ensuring that no errors occurred. (Don't you hate it when work just consists of being awake in case of errors?)
However, the thing we did not get working was the link with Manly, because we were not involved with setting up or maintaining the link. And we were not provided with any changes made to the server's settings to accommodate the link. And the doctor who paid for the link went for the cheap package which meant that the people who installed the link only maintained the link between the two routers, nothing else.
He was unhappy because we couldn't get the link, but he also countermanded our requests for information from receptionists, and tasks we asked them to perform, and so the link stayed down for a week, making the Manly site useless for that time. He now has decided to go his seperate way, which works for us.
Going away with friendsI went away down to Lillipilli with 4 friends from high school.
We spent that week playing Feng Shui, Shadowrun 4th Edition, D&D and Iron Heroes. Much fun was had, although my Feng Shui games were not exactly brilliant, and I need to work on that.
We did end up going to the beach once, but unfortunately a storm had ripped up a lot of seaweed. And I mean a lot of seaweed, it was extremely unpleasant, and I left the beach after about 30 minutes, because I simply could not stand it.
We also watched our way through a chunk of Arrested Development, Black Adder and all bar the last DVD of Excel Saga.
I enjoyed myself immensely, and look forward to the next time this happens.
SuperheroesFor some reason, right now I am on a superhero kick, most of what I am currently getting is Justice League, Static Shock, Batman, in other words DCAU series. I'm not entirely sure why, but it has meant that my anime watching has gone down to practically nothing.
Messing around with friendsI've done various things to catch up with friends from uni, two of them were specifically at Liviu's urging (with the proffered bribe of my birthday present =P).
Heading to Uni was one of these suggestions, and I got to catch up with Ash and
ethistan, but not Liviu, as due to a server complication at his work he could not make it. It was good to talk to them again, and I also managed to get some of the DVDs I lent to
ethistan back.
The second of such events was a gathering at my place, since my parents had headed to Hong Kong for a week. (This was also at Liv's urging). However, it turned out that Liv couldn't make it, some paltry excuse regarding a siblings birthday, and
iajanus said he would show up before or after cricket (
he LIED), Igvy ended up having work on that day after all, and j0ker had recently obtained a girlfriend. So the only people who could show up were Narmio and Snoof.
Still we had much fun, watching Karin, Static Shock, Batman of the Future, and also getting to play Doom the boardgame, a game to which I had recently obtained the expansion. So we got to play deathmatch, which was awesome fun, even though I lost the most, I blame it on bad luck with grenades.
Also, it turns out that letting the guy who got Survival Ops with one of his marines, get 3 armour on that guy was a bad plan.
I also managed to see Lord of War today, it was a great movie, if a tad predictable, the shape of the plot and various elements became clear for most of it fairly quickly, but there were awesome lines and scenes, and I didn't expect the ending.
The court case against the builders finishedAnd we won! The judge ruled that the builders owe us $160,200.
Kind of a pity that the last two years have cost us about $100,000 in legal fees though. And the chances of Arrow Construction paying us anything is pretty unlikely, we suspect they will end up bankrupt first.
Maintenance of RanPCMy PC doesn't seem to be in great shape, but I also don't currently have the cash to upgrade, and ideally I want to push it off until early january next year. So currently I am running various utilities to try to fix up problems.
Scandisk, defragging, and the like, which has lead to my PC being increasingly out of commission, so my laptop is more and more being used in the AV input of my monitor, to watch DVDs and the like.
But my PC has inexplicably died twice in the last month or so, requiring me to reseat various components before it will run again properly.
And for some bizarre reason Windows XP Install resets when I select a hard drive to install to, meaning unless I figure that out, a fresh install isn't going to materialise.
I am however now burning off more stuff from my hard drives into my Disc Stakka at least.
