This time I've pretty much just put my activities as icons, who can come up with a summary of my activities based upon these icons?

Friday

Saturday

It was bloody hot, 33 degrees apparently, but most importantly 84% humidity. I did learn however that my phone could be rested against the flyscreen and get pretty much full reception leading to a nice reasonably fast internet experience from the comfort of my own room.

Sunday

We didn't get much time on Sunday, opted for an early swim, followed by an early breakfast and then packed. We wandered to the wharf a little early so that we could take some family photos.

Maybe it is just too much Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, but one of the large rocks in the water at that point looked a bit like a damaged face. So I made sure to get a picture of that too.

Wednesday was tiring.

Swimming in the morning was fine, what was tiring was walking to the top of Mt Oldfield the tallest hill on the island. It was a nice 3.6km trek up the hill and 3.6km stroll back down to the resort. My family as a group got to the top, stood around and walked back down to the resort in an hour and forty minutes.

One of the things that does make you feel slightly less achieved is when you get to the top of the hill and there are a couple of benches there. Other people have made that walk with a bench and installed the thing in place.

I did get a few decent pictures whilst up there. Plus one of the family (all except Mum who took the picture), I've put a few of them below.

Thursday was very lazy, I slept in, I went up the hill and did a little archery followed by swimming in the top pool, I headed back to the room to watch a little Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, got vexed with VLC and so rebooted to windows, had lunch, watched the mkvs I had using Windows Media Player, which is bizarre since I normally never use it, had a swim in the main pool and made icons for the days activities.

Oh, and I found out that my posting method has been eating the old ones, have to fix that.

Monday was pretty quiet, rain was forecast and it was mostly overcast all day, I went swimming in the morning and then walked up the hill and did some archery. I went surprisingly well. I only missed the target twice at the start. After that every single one his the target, most even in the actual rings, worth points and all!

We then went back down and retreated back to the room to avoid the heat, and read about 100 pages of my book. Had lunch, headed back and finished off the book. I had intended to go and have another swim or something after lunch, however I ended up falling asleep, woke up at about 5:30 or so, and it had started raining.

So instead of going out, I watched the first Demon Hunters movie, it was made by a university film society in 1999, so it was rather... low budget and silly. Basically Dead Gentleman Production's (makers of Gamers: Dorkness Rising) first film. I've still got Demon Hunters 2: Dead Camper's Lake which should be a little higher budget.

Dinner was nice, though we were going to head to Nicholsons, which is a restaurant that is only open a few nights a week and we had to book it in the morning. Unfortunately the bus broke down so we weren't able to go there for dinner as my grandparents wouldn't be able to cope with the stairs.

Last time I came here I managed to break my Dad's nose during a game of basketball, this seems to be coming up a lot, geez that gets embarrassing after a while. It is amusing to note that they don't have a basketball rings up in the sports centre though.

During the dinner my younger brother noticed the way that the reflections in the concave area of spoons is upside down, I explained to the kids as to why this is, and told them that if the held the spoons close enough the reflection would be the right way up. This resulted in 4 kids each holding spoons to their eyes. I got one of them on camera!

Tuesday saw me swimming in the morning and then walking up to the top of the hill to see if I could get some decent photos (I couldn't really). I then headed back to the bar, planned to play a bit of the solitaire variant of Chrononauts, but Dad saw me in the bar and joined me, I taught him how to play and he promptly won the first game, but I won the second.

My brothers, one of my cousins and I went snorkeling after lunch, we took a disposable under water camera which we have mostly used, we've kept a couple for use in some especially cheesy underwater holiday snaps featuring people.

The boat we were in was glass bottomed, so I got to take some pretty neat pictures of the coral beneath. Well, with a little touching up, perhaps anyway.

I went swimming in the afternoon and then watched my way through Dead Camper's Lake, which is indeed ever so slightly higher budget than the first and just as silly. They did put a lot of stuff in this disc though, inlcuding the original Demon Hunters.

Thus bus looks like it will be fixed on Thursday which is a big pity since it pretty much cuts off the top of the hill from my grandparents, oh well, I guess we will see what happens.

Ran Out.

We got into Lindeman island yesterday afternoon.

I seem to have developed a minor fear of flight during the takeoff which is rather annoying, but I certainly pay a lot more attention during take off since that brief drop during a take off in the US.

Other than that the trip to the island was pretty uneventful, got to the airport with plenty of time, grandparents, uncle and his family arrived a while after we did but still with plenty of time. Had a small breakfast and then proceed to the terminal, where we waited and boarded the plane about 15 minutes after boarding time.

We got to Hamilton Island, had to wait a while for the baggage to get out so we could claim ours and then take it to the boat. We then waited on the boat for ages as they needed the flight from brisbane to arrive with its lot of people.

I took the opportunity on the boat to access the internet since I knew that I probably wouldn't have real internet access whilst on the island.

We then arrived at the island and were greeted and had various features of the resort explained to us, very little had changed since my family was last here.

We got to our rooms, then headed to the kitchen for a snack and then I went swimming in the main pool, which was nice and fairly warm, kind at the state where you don't need any time to adjust to the water temperature, though a little too warm in the sun perhaps.

Dinner was nice too, staying here these days is an complete up front package, so once you arrive all meals, drinks and pretty much all on island activities are free. You get these coloured wristbands to indicate whether you are over 18 or not to prevent old looking kids getting alcohol, but that is about it.

I headed to bed ridiculously early (9pm) because I had been operating on only a few hours sleep, something I really need to stop doing.

Today I swam in the morning at the top pool which is a no-kid quiet zone and as such is pretty much dead, did archery in the afternoon, which was a competition which my younger brother won. I pretty much need 2 shots to adjust my aim before I start hitting the target at all, which is a pretty sad state of affairs. I should probably mention at this point that of my immediate family only my youngest brother, myself and my parents were able to go, unfortunately my older brothers and my younger brother all couldn't make it. Or so I thought.

During this time, my oldest brother made it to the island, it turns out that the trip he had intended to go on at this time had been cancelled a couple of weeks back, so he and Dad arranged to add him onto this trip as a surprise. This is really nice considering that it is his birthday tomorrow. On the downside I didn't bring him a present (and hadn't even managed to arrange one for him yet). He and Dad managed to surprise almost everyone that was going. It turns out he had accidentally let Grandma know and his girlfriend had revealed it to my younger brother (who wasn't able to make it) last Friday through a slip of the tongue about Chris going away during his birthday.

I have very occasional phone reception at my room, but I do have good phone reception near the wharf. So I'll probably duck over there tonight and post this.

On the way over to here, I saw a guy being kicked into the pool as part of the pirates show, who can't approve of that kind of awesome?

I should be asleep, instead I am up reading XCOM LPs on the Lets Play archive at lparchive.org

In any case I'm going to be away stuck on a tropical island for the next week, possibly without internet access!

I will attempt to take pictures and keep some form of record.
